Manhattan City Hall Auditorium – 1101 Poyntz This is an educational session focusing on various aspects of fishing. Youths and accompanying adult (s) should arrive at 6:30 to finish enrollment. The session will start promptly at 7:00 pm and last about two hours. Parking may be an issue so plan ahead. SATURDAY June 8th, 2024 9:30 AM TO NOON Jerry Dishman Lake--Anneberg Park 3801 Anderson, Manhattan Youths and accompanying adult(s) should arrive no later than 9:15 am. Only youths who attended the Friday evening session may fish. The lake will be stocked with over 700 channel catfish. Enrolled youths will receive a free rod and reel to keep. Six awards will be given: Smallest fish—Girl & Boy Heaviest fish—Girl & Boy Heaviest stringer (3 fish) Girl & Boy After the awards ceremony, youth will be given a free pizza lunch. |
The Tuttle Creek Lake Association --TCLA--is dedicated to the enhancement of the natural resources of the Big Blue River area.
Since 1994, it has sponsored the Annual Youth Fishing Clinic, cooperatively with the Manhattan Deptartment of Parks and Recreation. Youths ages 8-12 are given a free rod and reel they keep, bait and equipment are provided, Anneberg Park lake is stocked with 700 to 1000 channel catfish and numerous awards are given.
Other projects have been:
1. Fish attractors and habitat in area lakes.
2. Handicapped accessible playground equipment in the River Pond Area.
3. Fish cleaning stations in the River Pond and at the Spillway Marina.
4. Money donations to the Kansas Wildlife, Parks and Tourism to support various projects.
5. Money donations to the U.S. Corps of Engineers to support projects such as Eagle Day, youth/assisted deer and turkey hunts and water safety projects.
